Three-legged croc’s ‘bone hanging out’ after Dominator’s ambush attack in Adelaide River

A croc whose leg was violently ripped off in an ambush attack before the eyes of tourists has survived, but its recovery is a gruesome sight to behold. WARNING: Graphic.

One river, two crocs, and three legs later, the victim of a shocking surprise attack has been spotted recovering from their violent ordeal.

Tourists were stunned during a trip with Adelaide River Cruises on August 29 when six metre long crocodile Dominator ripped into a smaller croc, tearing its leg off in the ambush.

The infamous reptile proudly displayed his prize to boat-bound spectators before making a crunchy meal of the disembodied limb.

Damian Duffy – or @wildmanadventures on Instagram – shared fresh footage of the mauled croc two weeks after the attack.

Mr Duffy said the croc swam about 15km upstream to find a peaceful place to recover, recuperate and “avoid having the rest of it eaten”.

“Right centre of the screen there is the bone hanging out and all the fleshy bits around it,” he said.

But despite the “unreal” injury, the Spectacular Jumping Crocodiles tour operator said viewers need not “feel sorry” for the croc.

“These animals have 12 times the antibodies that we do, they fight infection incredibly well,” Mr Duffy said.

“With the constriction of blood vessels to prevent it bleeding out, it’s not going to get infected, it’s not going to die of blood loss, it’s just going to sit here up in the mud and rest for a few weeks until that heals over.

“Then it’ll be right as rain.”
