Social media users were quick to make their feelings known on the logo, name and jumper of the Tasmania Devils.
It was revealed on Monday night that the Tasmania’s AFL team would be named the Devils with a new logo and red, green and yellow jumper.
The logo of the devil “embraces our past but looks forward to our future” Wynyard Football Club president Kent Jackson said during the launch at Devonport.
It appears to have struck a note with many Tasmanians sharing their approval particularly for the name and logo, however not spreading the same love for the jumper.
“Love the name and emblem....but that jumper??? Surely we can do better than that!” Rachel Webb posted on social media.
Another Facebook response gave ticks to the name and emblem, and a cross to the jumper.
Nick Martin agreed with the comment saying “I agree, love the logo, hate the state of origin jumper for a club”.
Others were less impressed with the club relying on its historic green and Devil roots.
“So nothing new...same colours, same map, and same name but with the devils (sic) mouth open,” Elita Hopper said.
Tasmania Devils Football Club chairman Grant O’Brien said the jumper would be worn with pride for many years.
“The famous jumper bearing the map of our island has endured many contests and famous victories and inspired our champions and our supporters over the years – it’s our flag and we will ensure it continues to fly and be worn proudly,” he said.
