The counting has continued in Saturday’s election with the Tasmanian Electoral Commission saying final results will most likely be known by Saturday August 2.

Electoral Commissioner Andrew Hawkey said when counting finished at 10,45 on Saturday night, first preference results had been reported from all polling day locations and nine pre-poll centres.

He said counting resumed at 9am Sunday for the remaining pre-poll centres and figures were updated to include results from Launceston, Smithton, Queenstown, Hobart, Rosny, and New Norfolk.

In some cases the figures changed by just a handful of votes.

In Clark, government minister Madeleine Ogilvie had 3510 votes trailing her sitting Liberal colleague Simon Behrakis with newcomer Marcus Vermey on 4629.

Liberal sources said Ms Ogilvie was not yet out of the race with the second Liberal seat set to go down to the wire.

Labor’s Ella Haddad was just ahead of colleague Josh Willie with the party on 1.75 quotas.

Independent Kristie Johnston topped the poll in Clark with 7829 votes or 1.2 quotas.

In Franklin, former Liberal government minister Nic Street is facing an uphill battle to hold his seat as anti-salmon campaigner and former ABC foreign correspondent Peter George and his team have 1.38 quotas assuring him of a seat.

Greens leader Rosalie Woodruff and independent David O’Byrne will be re-elected.

For Labor, Unions Tasmania secretary Jessica Munday has 1764 votes and is still trailing sitting MP Meg Brown with 2513 votes but some believe she is still in with a remote chance.

In Lyons, after Sunday’s counting, Shooters, Fishers and Farmers candidate Carlo Di Falco had 3869 votes or .57 of a quota slightly down on Saturday night’s quota of .63.

Liberal Minister Jane Howlett has 7310 votes ahead of deputy Premier and Treasurer Guy Barnett with 6665 and Mark Shelton with 3102.

The Liberals have 3.3 of a quota compared to Labor’s 2.3 quotas with Jen Butler still leading with 4574 votes and former federal MP Brian Mitchell with 3880 votes.

In Braddon, the Liberals are hoping to pick up a fourth seat but pundits say this is not guaranteed.

The Premier had a massive personal vote of 20,252 and the party was sitting at 3.99 quotas with Labor on 1.89 quotas with deputy leader Anita Dow ahead of colleague Shane Broad.

In Bass, former federal Liberal MP Bridget Archer topped the poll with 11,122 votes ahead of Michael Ferguson with 5888 and Rob Fairs 3238.

For Labor Janie Finlay received 7490 votes. Only 38 votes separate Jess Greene from former Bass federal MP Geoff Lyons.

Mr Hawkey said counting will recommence at 8:30am Monday, with the results from telephone voting expected later in the morning.

He said 1362 electors voted by phone on polling day, bringing the total number of phone votes to 8268.

The counting of postal votes is scheduled to begin on Thursday.

Results will continue to be updated progressively in the coming days, as rechecks and additional counts are completed

Mr Hawkey was pleased with how the election day and night progressed.

“There was a small hiccup around 6.45pm, there was a bit of a delay but when we got to 7pm everything was flying well,” he said.

“We’re really happy with the day and the night actually.”
