Driver allegedly threatened at knifepoint to drive stranger

February 14, midday: A 32-year-old Mayfield man has been charged after allegedly threatening a stranger to drive him across a Launceston suburb.

It’s alleged the man entered a vehicle on Invermay Rd, Mowbray while the driver and passenger were inside.

Police report the man then allegedly threatened the driver while in possession of a small knife.

Officers said the alleged offender was then driven to a spot on George Town Rd, where he exited the vehicle.

Police confirmed nobody was physically injured during the incident.

Police said they quickly found the man believed to be involved a short time later in Mayfield.

He was arrested and has since been charged with trespass, assault, and possess a dangerous article.

The man is set to appear in the Launceston Magistrates Court in April.

Also in Launceston in a separate incident, a targeted raid at a Kings Meadows home by Taskforce Raven seized $1000 worth of stolen property and a quantity of GHB, a depressant drug.

Police said a 32-year-old man and 33-year-old woman — both from Prospect — were arrested for being in possession of property believed to be stolen.

The are expected to appear in the Launceston Magistrates Court at a later date.
