Hillcrest Primary School tragedy update

ONE of the survivors from the Hillcrest Primary School tragedy has arrived home from hospital, with his local footy club acknowledging his strength and bravery.

The East Devonport Football Club took to Facebook to wish Declean Brown, a member of the Swans’ under-14 team, all the best for his recovery.

Declean was one of nine children injured in the shock jumping castle tragedy on December 16, with six not surviving.

“Declean no doubt has a long road ahead to full recovery, but his strength and bravery so far has us all at Swanland, confident he’ll make it,’’ the club wrote.

“In the fullness of time, coach Woodland might need to negotiate an assistant coaching role for young Declean to be amongst his buddies and assist in his recovery.

“All at Swanland wish the Brown family all the best in coming months, and we again reach out to families, extended families, friends and colleagues who have suffered the ultimate loss during this impossible tragedy.”

Six children aged 11 or 12 were killed after a freak gust of wind lifted a jumping castle and Zorb balls into the air at the Devonport school’s end of year event, prompting an outpouring of emotion across Tasmania and Australia-wide.

Addison Stewart, Zane Mellor, Jye Sheehan, Jalailah Jayne-Maree Jones, Peter Dodt and Chace Harrison have been farewelled at funerals in Devonport in recent weeks.
