One of Tasmania’s premier nature-based hotels, Pumphouse Point, has unveiled two new luxe accommodation offerings on the doorstep of the Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park, with further fresh experiences promised in the not too distant future.
Owned and operated by member organisation NRMA Parks and Resorts, Pumphouse Point is located at a former industrial site, set amid myrtle forests in Tasmania’s stunning Central Highlands.
Opened by Simon Currant in 2015, the hotel was designed by acclaimed architecture firm Cumulus Studio.
Pumphouse Point will open its second and third premium Retreats later this month as part of a $2.25m capital investment to supercharge the property’s boutique appeal.
NRMA Parks and Resorts says this investment is in response to increasing demand for exclusive and secluded stays in the Central Highlands region.
Paul Davies, chief executive of NRMA Parks and Resorts, said the new Retreats were the first of a series of upgrades planned for Pumphouse Point.
“Pumphouse Point is well established as one of Tasmania’s iconic accommodations, a must-visit on many travellers’ lists and this investment in the property’s high-end inventory will see the next stage in the evolution of the destination as a whole,” Mr Davies said.
“NRMA Parks and Resorts has made a significant commitment to tourism in the state with ongoing investment across accommodation, Gordon River Cruises, Sixt car hire, Coral Expeditions and Electric Highways Tasmania.
“We’re keen to put Pumphouse Point front and centre in travellers’ minds, with the beautiful new Retreats set overlooking the lake and historic pumphouse ideal for a special occasion getaway, for hikers and adventurers seeking some luxury and great dining and drinks at the end of the day, road trippers and people seeking a quiet, tranquil escape.”
The Retreats offer sleek suites on Lake St Clair and are surrounded by native bushland. Floor-to-ceiling windows provide stunning views of the lake and the historic 1930s pumphouse.
Each of the Retreats has a king bed, lounging area, outdoor terrace, fireplace, and sink-in bathtub.
The architecturally designed suites also contain locally crafted furniture, ceramics and amenities.
Guests are able to enjoy all-inclusive dining and drinks, as well as the opportunity to indulge at the Heritage Shorehouse restaurant.
Among the new experiences planned for Pumphouse Point in the near future are a 45-minute Pumphouse Point history walking tour and a chocolate-tasting journey delivered in partnership with House of Anvers.
