Sassafras man James David Perry has been found guilty by the Supreme Court of a string of penetrative sexual abuse charges against teenage girls.

Perry was found guilty by jury of eight charges following a ‘long and complex’ trial in the Burnie Supreme Court.

On Monday after deliberating for more than 11 hours the jury delivered their verdict to acting justice David Porter.

The charges relate to crimes which occurred in 2018-19 against six school-aged girls while Perry was around 19-years-old.

Perry had pleaded not guilty to all 16 charges.

The jury found him guilty of six counts of penetrative sexual abuse of a young person, but cleared him on eight counts of rape.

Instead, he was convicted on three alternative charges of penetrative sexual abuse of a child or young person.

They could not reach a verdict on two counts of indecent assault, one count of penetrative sexual abuse of a young person, and three alternative charges of penetrative sexual abuse of a child or young person.
