Supanova 2019: Roads closed in Broadbeach for Superheroes Parade

Thousands of people will hit the streets for the annual Supanova Superheroes Parade on Sunday with motorists told to avoid the area. CHECK THE ROAD CLOSURES HERE.

THOUSANDS of people will hit the streets for the annual Supanova Superheroes Parade through Broadbeach on Sunday.

The event is the biggest of its kind in Australia, with pop culture characters flooding the streets of the Gold Coast.

Broadbeach Alliance CEO Jan McCormick said hundreds are set to take part in the parade from 9am, while another 9000 expected to come and cheer them on.

This year the event will be headlined by Mad Max actors Hugh Keays-Byrne and Steve Bisley as part of the movie’s 40th anniversary celebrations.

The event is expected to cause gridlock conditions for traffic in the area, with motorists encouraged to steer clear of Broadbeach between 5am and 1pm.

Queensland Police Major Events Group Inspector Mat Rosevear said police had been overseeing the parade planning in the lead up to the big day.

“Police will be present during the event to ensure public safety and minimal disruption to local residents and businesses throughout this event,” he said.

Some bus services in the area will also be affected between 5am and 1pm, including stops along Old Burleigh Rd, Surf Parade and Elizabeth Avenue.

TransLink urged its customers using route 705 to check the website before travelling for interruptions.

Diversions will be in place around the centre of Broadbeach for most of the morning.

From 5am-11am

•Partial road closures of Old Burleigh Road, Broadbeach (between Australia Ave and Queensland Ave)

•Partial road closure of Queensland Ave, Broadbeach (between Old Burleigh Road and Jubilee Ave)

5am — 12pm

•Partial road closure of Victoria Ave, Broadbeach (between Gold Coast Highway to Oasis Carpark entry/exit)

5am to 1pm

•Partial road closure of Surf Parade, Broadbeach (between Capricornia Ave and Charles Ave);

•Restricted access (Local traffic only) of Albert Ave, Broadbeach (between Surf Parade and Old Burleigh Rd)
