The category is sponsored by Destination Gold Coast whose CEO Patricia O’Callaghan says: “Women have a strong leadership role not only in the tourism industry but across our city, Queensland and the country.

“There’s a real spotlight on women in leadership and that’s fantastic. I’ve obviously got a very soft spot for the tourism sector. About 80 per cent of our industry is female.

“With what we’ve been through in the past two years with the pandemic, women have taken a really strong role in not just helping our industry survive but also now we’re seeing a rebound and growth.

“That’s exciting and they should be celebrated.”

Harvey Norman CEO Katie Page: “The Gold Coast Women of the Year awards, in its fourth year, demonstrate the depth of talented women working and volunteering on the Gold Coast – every year nominees and finalists remind us of the brilliance, energy and compassion of women among us. The launch for 2022 is special – we are back living and working at full speed as a city, state and country. Life here on the Gold Coast is phenomenal. But the past two years highlighted the importance of living and thriving locally.

Harvey Norman CEO Katie Page: “Nominate women whose businesses make the Gold Coast economy tick. You know the sportswomen whose tireless, silent training has them on the cusp of podiums and records. Introduce us to those whose contribution protects, nurtures and heals those on the Gold Coast who are vulnerable. Even more so, tell us about the women who changed your life.” Picture: Richard Gosling

“Now more than ever, we know who makes the difference. We know who are responsible for contributing X-factor that sets the Gold Coast apart.

“You know who they are, so nominate women whose businesses make the Gold Coast economy tick. You know the sportswomen whose tireless, silent training has them on the cusp of podiums and records. Introduce us to those whose contribution protects, nurtures and heals those on the Gold Coast who are vulnerable. Even more so, tell us about the women who changed your life.

“I love the awards – it gives us the best opportunity to identify, recognise and express our profound gratitude to the women who make the Gold Coast.”

Star Gold Coast chief operating officer Jess Mellor said Star had proudly supported the awards every year, including 2022 as major partner.

“This highlights incredibly positive outcomes for women, giving voice to their achievements. Creating opportunities for women to shine is an important value for us at The Star, because it progresses gender equality but also taps into diverse insights, ideas and talent.

“Our city has so many impressive and often unsung female high achievers and everyone needs to hear their stories. These awards will help bring them into the light. There will be stories shared that will inspire other women to chase their own goals and dreams.”

Bulletin editor Ryan Keen said: “Last year’s winners were so impressive from teen swim sensation Montana Atkinson relentlessly pursuing Paralympic dreams to entrepreneur Tamika Smith rallying the construction industry to build a house for the children of slain mum Kelly Wilkinson.

“Even more impressive are the challenges many finalists and winners typically have overcome to make their mark.
