She was just 19 when she suddenly found herself a mother of three. Now 11 years on, she’s become a second parent to more than 600.

THE Dynamite Studios story

AT 19 years old, Abbe Bradbury found herself suddenly a mother of three — eleven years on, she’s become a second parent to more than 600.

After marrying the love of her life she also became a stepmother and when her eldest daughter was being bullied in high school, Ms Bradbury refused to take it.

“When we went to the school at the time they weren’t supportive of performing arts … so I felt like I was really at a loss,” she said.

“I was really inspired to start a high school where students could reach both their academic and performing arts potential, and grow in an environment where they’re being supported, nurtured and mentored to be the best they can be.”

Dynamite Studios Academy has now become one of a kind, allowing students to complete high school and work towards certifications and diplomas in dance while training.

Many are students who may not fit into regular schooling, and some dance 40-50 hours a week.

Having been supported by her own family throughout a dance career spanning several decades, the now 30-year-old said it’s important to her to show the same for her students.

“I do believe we are like a family, we have some kids that come with us when they’re in nappies and they leave at 18 on their first contract,” she said.

“For us we do create a kind of second home, we nurture these kids and we shape them into the young people they become.

“And we continue that for a lifelong relationship, there are students that travel all over the world and we’re their first stop when they get off the plane.”
