FOR THE past few months, Clay McCann has been the principal of a school without students.
He has watched as Pimpama’s newest primary, Gainsborough State School has risen from the ground.
Now, this week as the founding principal he will be meeting prospective pupils for the first time for their enrolment interviews before the first day of school next year.
“It is getting to the pointy end now where we start to move in, so much preparation has gone into it,” he said.
“I have been out of the school effectively since may so I am loving enrolment, interviews where I am actually talking to kids again.
It is something I know I have particularly looked forward to, the other teachers are the same.
“To get back to the school and speak with young people and have families around, you don’t realise you miss it until you go without it.

“That is really why we do what we do.”
Hailing from North Queensland before his time on the Coast Mr McCann, a lover of the outdoors and fun in learning has some big ideas for the new school.
