AN experienced council officer standing in Dawn Crichlow’s division is to campaign on a six-point plan to deliver up to 10,000 new jobs in the CBD.
Shaelee Welchman, who has 20 years experience as a council officer and a leader of the Southport CBD team, believes the plan is “doable” with the support of all levels of government.
‘PROTESTS AND PERSONAL ATTACKS WILL NOT BE HELPFUL’
The key points of Ms Welchman’s employment plan, which sets 2025 as a deadline, include:
● The creation of an expanded legal hub to house barristers chambers, an inns of the court, Supreme Court and Family Law Court, enabling matters to be heard locally.
● Building a government hub to attract new state and federal government departments and offer the opportunity for the consolidation of existing government offices from across the Gold Coast.
● The relocation of City of Gold Coast administration offices to the government hub by 2025.
● Escalation of marketing and promotion of the Southport CBD intrastate and interstate to attract new businesses and organisations.
● A national and international campaign, launched jointly with the State Government, to put Southport’s Health and Knowledge Precinct on the map and attract leading tech and research companies to the location.
CENTRELINK WORKER SUING COUNCIL FOR $378,000
Mrs Welchman said she believed the target could be achieved through hard work and a knowledge of how to get things done.
“Whilst other candidates, were they to win, would spend the first term learning on the job, my experience delivering major government initiatives means I’ll be firing on all cylinders from day one,” she said.
