A MAN charged with attempted murder after he allegedly stabbed a man in South Townsville on Tuesday has had his matter heard in court.

Zachary John Hunt, 27, allegedly stabbed the man during a fight that broke out in South Townsville.

Hunt did not appear in court, however his defence lawyer Michael Spearmen told Viviana Keegan he was seeking a brief of evidence.

He also revealed that his client, who hailed from Beaconsfield in Mackay, also had legal matters to deal with arising in Brisbane, Rockhampton and Charters Towers, which he planned to bundle together with this latest charge.

Hunt’s case was adjourned to September 26 and he was remanded in custody.

Attempted murder charge over Townsville stabbing

A 27-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly stabbing a man during a fight that broke out while working together in South Townsville.

Police were called to Nelson St about 1.20pm on Tuesday after multiple triple-0 calls reporting a man had been stabbed.

Acting Senior Sergeant Jayson Cooke said it was understood the men did not live at the residence.

“There was an altercation between two men working on a shed in a residence in South Townsville,” Sgt. Cooke said.

Police arrested a 27-year-old Beaconsfield man at the scene and later charged him one count of attempted murder. He will appear in the Townsville Magistrates Court today.

Police will allege he stabbed the other man a number of times with a knife.

The 38-year-old South Townsville man, who was transported to Townsville Hospital with a cut to the neck and puncture wounds in his back and shoulder, remains in a serious but stable condition.
