A delivery driver and his wife secretly helped bring the alleged “atrocities” of a piggery north of Adelaide into the limelight, with a formal investigation now underway.

It all started as an email, the driver’s wife reaching out to animal welfare group Farm Transparency Project detailing the suffering her husband had experienced when visiting Dublin’s Andgar Piggery.

Sharing images and video secretly taken on a phone camera to the group, the woman also sent an email addressed to Premier Peter Malinauskas, Australian Pork Limited, Pork SA, and the Department of Primary Industries.

“My husband was [redacted] he had been delivering [redacted] to Andgar Piggery for over two years, June 2023-June 2025,” she wrote.
“Over this time, he has witnessed such atrocities to the pigs in that facility.

“Over the last year, the conditions have just got worse and worse to the point he would come home very traumatised by some of the cruelty and lack of maintenance and care of animals with this company.

The woman said her husband had seen feeders blocked and full of mould, feeders not working, and whenever he’d deliver there would never be any workers at the property.

“He witnessed pigs living in eco huts with water overflowing into yards, mixing with manure and straw, which would then turn into a mass of quicksand-like material which the pigs were living in up to their backs,” she said.

“The pigs would have to walk and sleep through this quicksand on a daily basis until they were so exhausted they couldn’t move anymore and would literally drown in the wet manure like substance or freeze to death.”

She said even though her husband reported the issue to his boss, “no one ever did anything to change or address the issue”.

The Farm Transparency Project posted videos and photos this month to Facebook of the piggery, and since the RSPCA has begun a formal investigation and already conducted two raids on the Dublin property.

The charity’s inspectorate officers along with PIRSA veterinary staff raided the piggery twice and euthanised 14 pigs, it said in a statement.

Additionally, 21 Animal Welfare Notices have been issued to the owners and managers of the piggery to take immediate action regarding conditions and maintenance – with compliance measures in place through spot inspections.

The piggery owners and managers have been formally interviewed, and the charity is in the process of preparing a comprehensive brief of evidence with the intention to instigate court proceedings.

Outraged animal activists from Farm Transparency Project gathered to protest outside the piggery on July 19.
