US burger chain Carl’s Jr, Cafe de Vili’s could open eateries under $5 million plan for Elizabeth

An expanding US burger chain and iconic SA brand Cafe de Vili’s could open new outlets in Adelaide’s north as part of a new $5 million development in a prominent location.

Two popular eateries could be coming to a prominent part of Elizabeth under a $5 million proposal that promises to deliver nearly 150 jobs.

Plans have been lodged with Playford Council for an Ampol service station with Carl’s Jr and Cafe de Vili’s outlets at a vacant, 1.83 hectare parcel of privately-owned land at the corner of Main North Road and Elizabeth Way.

A consultant’s report, tabled with the council, states the proposal could generate almost 150 jobs with all three businesses operating 24/7, with the land initially tipped for a hotel development.

US burger chain Carl’s Jr would seat up to 83 people, have two drive through points, 38 car parking spaces and be the company’s fourth restaurant in SA.

The service station would come with a car wash, 15 car parking spaces, eight refuelling points and a drive through where commuters can buy “convenience goods”.

Cafe de Vili’s would seat up to 84 people with 42 car parking spaces.

The consultant, Phillip Brunning and Associates (PBA), submitted any noise coming from the proposal is “unlikely to be audible above background noise levels” due to traffic.

However, several trees would be removed for the proposal, with the consultant saying they do not “form a notable visual element” to the landscape or provide important habitat.

“Retention of these trees in favour of the proposal is not considered warranted and they ought not to be considered as an insurmountable constraint to the development of this land, with any aesthetic contribution more than adequately compensated for by proposed landscaping,” the report reads.

Playford Council Mayor Glenn Docherty said he welcomed the new application.

“These developments help to create economic opportunities and new jobs into our community,” Mr Docherty said.

“Council will assess the development application as per our usual development assessment process.”
