Tragic death of The Big Rocking Horse mini goat Delilah after giving birth sparks online feud

The sudden passing of a beloved miniature goat shortly after giving birth has sparked an online feud, but it was what was omitted that caused the biggest problem.

The owners of The Big Rocking Horse announced the birth of one and death of another miniature goat within hours.

The circumstances surrounding the tragic death of a beloved miniature goat has sparked an online feud.

On Tuesday, The Big Rocking Horse shared the news that their “precious” Delilah had sadly died.

The four-year-old goat was euthanised after being struck by a falling branch overnight, mere hours after giving birth to her baby, Princess Diana, announced in a post earlier on Tuesday.

“At first light I went and checked on her and a tree branch had fallen and injured her,” owner Mell Penno told The Advertiser.

“I called the vet who came within half an hour and said she was struggling and her heart rate was skipping.
“We made the hardest decision to euthanise our dear Delilah so she didn’t suffer.”

In a touching tribute posted on Facebook, Ms Penno described Delilah as “a gentle loving girl who would follow you around the whole park.”

“Our Big Rocking Horse animal family mean the world to us!,” she wrote.

“What an honour it was to spend the last 2 years with you, having cuddles everyday and every time I entered the park, she would be the 1st to run up to me.

“️My heart is truly broken. Rest peacefully my precious Delilah, I love you always.”

But the post, which omitted the reason for her death, soon sparked backlash by some who mistakenly believed her death was caused by birth complications.

In another Facebook post, Briar Rose Farm owner Megan Miller, who sold Delilah to Ms Penno two years ago, said the doe should have never been bred.

“This is what happens when you sell does that should never have been bred to untrustworthy people, even though it was in writing at the time of sale,” she wrote.

“We should never have let you go, big mistake.

“What a terrible way to go, shouldn’t have happened.”

When contacted by The Advertiser, Ms Miller said she was deeply saddened by the loss and was unaware Delilah had been crushed.

She also said that she had previously advised Ms Penno against breeding Delilah, formerly known as Bramble, due to her small size.

However, Ms Penno said that Delilah was taken to a vet shortly after falling pregnant who said it was safe.

While the issue is yet to be resolved, both parties expressed their wishes to move forward.

“It was a tragic circumstance that happened,” Ms Penno said.

“We need to move on and move forward and hope and little Diana has the best life.”

While only three days old, Princess Diana is already her mother’s “mini me,” she said.

“Her baby Princess Diana looks just like her.

“I will hand raise her and she will live a full and happy life in the park with our other BRH animal family.”
