Power to thousands of homes and businesses has been restored after a huge blackout hit Adelaide’s east.

An outage affecting about 1300 homes and businesses was reported in Norwood and Beulah Park about 9am on Wednesday.

It was restored about 2pm, according to SA Power Network’s outage map.

At one point, phones were also down in the area, with Norwood Payneham & St Peters Council issuing an alert to residents on their website.

“Due to a local power outage, our phone system is currently down,” it read, before directing all inquiries to an email address.

Businesses along The Parade were affected, with many forced to turn customers away and send staff home.

“It’s really hurting the trade on The Parade,” a spokeswoman from Louie’s Deli told FIVEAA.

She said many traders, including herself, were forced to shut shop, with food retailers throwing spoiled stock out.

The Norwood police station was also impacted by the outage, issuing an alert to locals officers were “unable to assist with station inquires”.

Norwood Town Hall was also closed, meaning the Citizen Services Centre and Norwood Library were also shut.

At 11.30am, there were 17 reported outages across SA affecting more than 2300 customers.
