Social media dealer Fergus Page jailed after selling cocaine and MDMA to undercover police officers

A social media dealer said selling drugs was a better way to fund his lifestyle of designer shoes and gambling than an apprentice’s wage, a court has heard.

How does cocaine get into South Australia?

A young man who was selling drugs on social media told a psychologist it was a better way to fund his lifestyle than an apprentice’s wage, a court heard.

Fergus Page, 25, was jailed for over five years after he was back to his old tricks only months after being busted with a large amount of drugs.

During sentencing, the District Court heard police searched Page’s bedroom in February 2023 and found 626g of mixed MDMA and a total of 211.6g of mixed cocaine.

They also located scales, tick lists, plastic resealable bags and multiple phones.

The court heard despite Page being unemployed, police located jewellery, designer sneakers and bags in his possession, which Judge Press said showed the profits he was making.

The court heard while Page was already on bail for other offending, he was actively advertising drugs on at least one social media platform in July 2023.

Page sold undercover operatives MDMA pills and cocaine between July and September 2023.

Police then searched Page’s house on September 6, 2023 and located a pill press fitted with a ‘Super Mario’ punch and 113.68g of mixed MDMA powder.

Page, of Clarence Park, pleaded guilty to multiple offences, including commercial drug trafficking and possessing prescribed equipment.

The court heard Page was selling drugs to fund his own use of MDMA and cocaine, as well as a significant gambling addiction.

Judge Ian Press said Page started an apprenticeship after school which he did not pursue.

“You candidly admitted to the psychologist that the money you received from selling drugs was better than trying to survive on an apprentice’s wage,” he said.

The court heard after Page’s arrest in February where the drugs were seized he was informed that he had to repay the debt, which is why he started selling again.

“Regrettably, it appears that selling drugs gave rise to an increase in your perception of your self-worth,” Judge Press said.

“I accept those feelings of self-importance reflect your relevant immaturity at the time your offending commenced.”

However, the court heard Page was determined to be at low risk of reoffending if he did not return to drugs.

Judge Press sentenced Page to five years and six months jail, with a non-parole period of three years and two months.

The sentence was backdated to September 6, 2023.
