SA made Polly Waffle bites have made a return but purchasing has been limited

Polly Waffles have returned after a 15 year hiatus, but Waffle mania has forced one store to cap purchases.

A community in the northern suburbs has been left with furrowed brows after learning their local Drakes store has limited the purchase of Polly Waffles.

The iconic Australian treat has made a long awaited return to supermarket shelves, however there is now dismay over a Drakes store decision to cap purchase.

Drakes Salisbury North has put up signs on their Polly Waffle boxes to say each customer can only buy two packets.

“Attention Customers,” they wrote on the A4 piece of paper which they sticky taped to the cardboard boxes of Polly Waffle Bites.

“Limit of 2 packets of Polly Waffle per customer. Thank you.”

However, Drakes has explained the decision due to the high volume of demand their northern store has been receiving.

“Before the release of the much-anticipated Polly Waffle bites our store team received a high volume of requests from customers to purchase full cartons of the product,” their head office told The Advertiser.

“On Monday and Tuesday, the decision was made to limit purchases to 2 packs per customer in the interest of fairness at our Salisbury North store – and rightfully so, as the store sold over 800 packs in the first two days.”

Drakes said restrictions have now been lifted with extra stock becoming available.

This comes after Confectioner Menz revived production of the chocolate in Adelaide after a 15 years long hiatus.

The chocolate bites will initially be sold here at independent retailers Foodland and Drakes SA, as well as by Menz FruChocs – both in its shops (Hahndorf and McLaren Vale) and online.

In the coming weeks they will roll out across the country, with stockists to include Coles, Woolworths and other independent retailers, petrol and convenience stores.
