A motorway in Adelaide’s north has finally reopened after a semi-trailer carrying flour rolled over and spilled its load at Dry Creek on Sunday evening.
Police and emergency services rushed to the scene – at the Port River Expressway and North-South Motorway interchange – about 5pm on Sunday.
The expressway on-ramp was closed until about 10am on Monday while the truck was recovered, after a police spokeswoman told FIVEAA radio it was expected to be closed for the duration of the morning peak “perhaps almost ‘til lunch”.
She said the clean-up was significant due to major damage to the structure and barriers, and had been further hampered by the spilled flour that had mixed with rain overnight and “resembled glue”.
The driver of the truck, a 26-year-old man from Victoria, was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing, and anyone who was a witness or has dashcam of the crash is urged to contact police. You can anonymously contact Crime Stoppers online at crimestopperssa.com.au or free call 1800 333 000.
Earlier, a 17-year-old P-plater and his 15-year-old female passenger were taken to hospital after a crash in the Adelaide Hills.
The driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle and slammed into a ditch at Kersbrook.
Both occupants escaped with non-threatening life injuries.
