Quick-thinking man saves home from arson attack by driving car on fire out of driveway

CCTV has captured the shocking moment a quick-thinking man was forced into a flaming car after it was set alight by arsonists. See the wild footage.

Two arsonists are on the run after they allegedly set a car on fire at a northern-suburbs home, shortly before the owner drove it away – engulfed in flames – to stop the blaze spreading to his home.

Police and fire crews were called to a home on Greenwood Crescent, Smithfield Plains just after midnight on Thursday, to reports of a car on fire in the driveway.

CCTV footage, obtained by 7News Adelaide shows two people pouring flammable liquid onto the car before setting it alight, and fleeing the property as large flames shoot into the air.

Shortly after, the owner runs outside and attempts to contain the flames with a garden hose.

Unable to completely extinguish the fire, footage shows the quick-thinking owner jump in the car and drive it away from the property, successfully stopping it from spreading.

Crime Scene investigators attended the scene to examine the vehicle.

Police said the fire is believed to be deliberately lit and investigations are continuing.

It comes a day after an unrelated incident involving Port Power Defender, Brandon Zerk-Thatcher and his partner Abby, who fled their home in the early hours of Thursday morning after an arson attack.

Police said the incident was suspicious after witnesses reported seeing people running from the scene shortly after the fire started.

Anyone with information or CCTV is asked to contact Crime Stoppers.
