An interstate couple will face court on Thursday after an alleged crime spree spanning from the eastern states through to the far west of South Australia.

The man and woman were arrested after police used road spikes to stop them after allegedly committing theft across the state.

Their arrest came after police were called to a service station on the Flinders Highway, Elliston, at 11.30am on Wednesday after reports two people travelling in a Ford Focus had filled up with fuel and fled the area without making payment.

Police alleged the Ford had been stolen from New South Wales some time between December and February.

Later, about 12.40pm, police spotted the car travelling on the Flinders Highway, Merghiny and police radioed ahead and set up road spikes about 3km south of Ceduna.

About 1pm, the car was spiked and came to a stop and the occupants, a 29-year-old Victoria man, and a 32-year-old New South Wales woman, were arrested and charged with illegal use, making off without payment, driving unlicensed and theft.

The pair were further charged with a fuel theft at Smithfield on Monday, failing to stop for police when they were sighted in the Ford Focus travelling on Main North Rd, Evanston Park on Tuesday, and a theft at Port Kenny on Wednesday.

The car was towed from the scene.

The pair were refused police bail and will appear at the Ceduna Magistrates Court on Thursday, February 29.
