An investigation has been launched into a southern suburbs OTR after a woman claimed she broke down in the middle of a busy intersection – alleging the petrol she used to fill her car contained water.
Ell Col posted on the Christies Community Forum Facebook group she had filled up her tank with premium unleaded 98 petrol from OTR Christies Beach on Beach Rd, on Saturday afternoon.
She said her car then broke down in the middle of South Rd and Doctors Rd “due to water inside the fuel tank”.
“My car was fine prior to filling and I was on 74kms to empty when I filled the tank with 98,” she said. “I had no issues until I filled the car.
“The whole fuel tank will need to be drained and flushed. Spark plugs replaced, the motor will need to be checked for water or it will rust and so much more.
“I’m waiting for OTR to get back to me as they will need to pay for all the repairs”.
Ms Col said she had contacted OTR and claimed they had “identified” water inside both the premium unleaded 95 and 98 tanks.
A Viva Energy spokesman – the parent company of OTR – said the relevant fuel tanks were “immediately” checked, “with no water detected”.
“OTR has been contacted by a customer claiming her car broke down on Saturday after purchasing fuel from our Christies Beach outlet,” they said.
“The customer’s claim is now being investigated further.
“If anyone suspects their vehicle has been affected by contaminated fuel from an OTR outlet, please contact our Customer Engagement Team on 08 8876 5271 or our website.”
The spokesman did not respond when asked if anything was being done to remunerate the customer.
