Multiple restaurants on Prospect Rd at Prospect were severely damaged as a fierce fire rapidly spread on Saturday afternoon.

Four buildings were damaged as the fire spread from an Indian restaurant to neighbouring Vietnamese, Mexican and Middle Eastern eateries.

Thick plumes of dark smoke filled the skies as 12 Metropolitan Fire Service trucks and 45 firefighters fought the flames using equipment including an aerial appliance.

Investigations are underway to see what triggered the fire but no ignition point has been identified. The damage comes as restaurants affected had advertised Mother’s Day special lunches, adding to the misfortune for owners and staff.
