Main South Road closed after Wattle Flat bike, truck crash

A Morphett Vale man has died after colliding with a truck in one of two motorcycle accidents recorded on SA’s roads on Saturday.

A young motorcyclist has died after colliding with a truck at Wattle Flat on the Fleurieu Peninsula.

At about 2.30pm Saturday, police and emergency services were called to an accident on Main South Road, between Myponga and Yankalilla.

Despite the efforts of paramedics, the motorcyclist, a 21-year-old Morphett Vale man, died at the scene.

The truck driver, a 37-year-old male, was not injured in the crash.

Major crash officers are investigating the accident, and the road remains closed between Forktree Road and Yankalilla.

The young man’s death is the 55th life lost on SA roads so far this year, and the ninth motorcycle fatality. The road toll at the same time last year was 71.

It comes after a different motorcyclist and car collided on the corner of Marion Rd and Cross Rd on Saturday afternoon.

The rider and passenger of the motorcycle sustained non-life threatening injuries according to the police.

The State Emergency Service was one of the first responders on scene, blocking off the area.

Emergency services, including ambulance and police were also on scene.

Roads have since reopened to traffic.
