The devastated wife of the Adelaide man who drowned on his honeymoon in Bali has thanked the community for the outpouring of love she has received since his death.
Jacob Vennix, 32, died on December 30 after being dragged out to sea by a strong current while swimming at the estuary at Pasut Beach in Tabanan Regency, northwest of Kuta, at 3.50pm local time.
Ms Fuller administered CPR but her husband was pronounced dead at the local hospital.
“Thank you to every kind human who has sent me messages, offered to chat, lend a hand with the boys and brought flowers and food,” she wrote on Facebook.
“Your thoughts really lighten my spirit to know there is so much good in the world.”
His 38-year-old heartbroken widow called Mr Vennix “the most beautiful man”.
“(He) cared for so many,” she said. “Please … if you’re not familiar with the conditions of the ocean, don’t be like me and assume if they say it’s ‘fine’ to swim in, assume it is. Other countries don’t have warning signs like us.”
The pair share a son Cole, who they named after the place where they first met – a Coles supermarket – after Mr Vennix spotted who would become his stepson, four-year-old Isaac, playing with a Guide Dogs box.
A GoFundMe made in honour of Mr Vennix has raised $44,000.
“The money raised will help bring Jacob home and cover funeral expenses,” Ms Fuller said.
“I thought I booked travel insurance but I didn’t and his life insurance lapsed so the money is greatly appreciated to help ease the pressure adjusting to life as a single mum with a mortgage.”
Ms Fuller is also planning to purchase and donate a defibrillator to Tabanan Public Hospital.
Ms Fuller said she will announce funeral details soon for those would like to celebrate her late husband’s life.
