Flinders Park man, Syed Prottoy 20, has died following a horrific single-vehicle crash at Torrens Vale near Yankalilla

The passenger who died in a crash that sent two others to hospital after their car hit a tree has been identified.

A 20-year-old Bangladeshi international student from Adelaide University has died in a horror smash on the Fleurieu Peninsula.

Syed Prottoy, from Flinders Park, was killed when the car he was travelling in veered off Parawa Rd at Torrens Vale just before 4am on Saturday.

The vehicle left the road before slamming into a tree and rolling down a steep embankment.

It crashed through a fence and came to rest in a paddock at the base of the valley.

The grey Mazda 3, which had two other occupants, took the full force of the impact on the rear left side — the roof was buckled, the back passenger door torn open, and the bumper crushed.

A dead kangaroo was found just metres up the road, with investigators probing whether it played a role in the crash.

Syed, who was a passenger in the back seat, died at the scene.

The 21-year-old driver and another 21-year-old male passenger, both from Adelaide’s western suburbs, were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

South Australian Bangladeshi Community Association chairperson Mahbub Siraz Tuhin confirmed Syed’s death in a public post on Facebook.

“Truly, to Allah we belong and truly, to Him we shall return,” he wrote.

“May Allah (SWT) forgive him, ease the punishment of the grave, raise him among those who are successful on the day of Judgement and grant him Jannatul Ferdous.”

The left rear side of the vehicle bore the brunt of the impact, with the roof crumpled and buckled inward and the back passenger door torn and twisted open.

The rear windscreen was shattered and the bumper crushed, with visible signs of rollover damage across the panels.

Investigators were seen meticulously combing the scene all morning, taking measurements, mapping vehicle positions, and documenting skid marks and debris to help determine what may have happened.

The crash occurred on a winding, tree-lined stretch of road, known to often be frequented by kangaroos.

Parawa Rd remains closed in both directions between Range Rd and Torrens Vale Rd, with police urging motorists to steer clear.

The man’s death is the 42nd life lost on South Australian roads so far this year.

Emergency services also attended a second serious crash at Sellicks Hill on the Fleurieu Peninsula later on Saturday morning.
