A bus driver will appear in court after his involvement in a major collision near Paradise Interchange earlier this month.

Following an investigation, one of the bus drivers, a 54-year-old man from Munno Para was reportedly driving without due care.

He will be summoned to appear in court at a later date.

This comes after the reports of a serious crash on Thursday, January 18 in which buses ‘501’ and ‘502’ collided on the intersection of Darley Rd and Gameau Rd.

Previously, the Department for Infrastructure and Transport’s CEO Jon Whelan said a bus driver was suspended after the crash and added “both were drug and alcohol tested on scene.”

“The latest information we have received from the initial investigation was that Torrens Transit has stood one of the driver’s down,” said Mr Whelan.

“As a standard process, both bus drivers have undertaken drug and alcohol testing and we will wait for those results to come forward.”

However, during the course of the investigation, authorities are unable to reveal the reason behind suspending their bus driver.

Despite the damage resulting from the collision which had about 50 passengers aboard bus ‘501’ and 10 bus takers on bus ‘502’, there were no major injuries.

Only one passenger was admitted into medical care out of the five which were taken to a hospital.

Mr Whelan said he was pleased all passengers and the two drivers escaped serious injury.

“We are very fortunate that there were no life-threatening injuries from this crash … and the two bus driver’s were not injured at all,” the CEO said.
