An elusive, repeat traffic offender ultimately couldn’t outrun the law after his appearance in court for traffic offences this week.

A known hoon appeared in court after the elusive driver turned himself in to police.

Robert Anthony James Heeman, 31, faced Warwick Magistrates Court on September 2, and pleaded guilty over the phone to four charges: speeding, possession of stolen licence plate, driving unregistered and using a number plate from another vehicle.

Heeman was previously facing an evasion charge, which was dropped by the prosecution for the speeding charge.

Sergeant Steve de Lissa recounted the man was driving on Taylor St at Maryvale on December 8, 2023, when a local officer noticed him and attempted to intercept him.

“He began to speed away above the speed limit, causing the pursuit to be called off,” sergeant de Lissa said.

Officers eventually caught up with Heeman and his dodgy vehicle, finding it was last registered in 2015.

“He told police he found the licence plate in the bush,” the sergeant said.

Defence lawyer Sarah Campbell told the court the now-Victorian resident, “made full admissions to police” and handed himself into officers.

“It’s a timely plea, he has had a negligible criminal history and two pages of traffic history,” Ms Campbell said.

Heeman was previously sentenced in 2022- two years ago to the day- for his role in a “risky driving” offence which resulted in a traffic crash.

Magistrate Janice Crawford gave credit for the man’s early plea and co-operation with police.

Heeman was fined a total of $750 and for the charge of possessing the number plate he was convicted and not further punished.

Convictions were recorded.
