Lennox Head is normally associated with super pricey mansions, ladies who lunch and a spectacular surf beach.

Now, you can add Muay Thai boxing to the northern NSW seaside hamlet’s list of credentials.

Ballina’s Spiro Darzanos has chosen the village to host his first professional fight night.

“500 tickets and they were gone in a flash. I’m very happy,” he said.

“We’ve got people coming from the ACT, Sydney, Adelaide, Queensland – gyms from all around.

500 tickets were up for grabs for the event at Lennox Heads and the ‘sold out’ signs went up weeks ago.

“The Ballina mayor (Sharon Cadwallader) is coming too with her husband.”

Eighteen fights are on the card at Lennox Head Cultural Centre – 14 of those amateur contests.

The main event will see local Casino excitement machine Mark Standing tackle Sydney’s Daniel Charlwood in a pro bout.

Another pro fight will see local veteran Michael Williams – in possibly his swan song – get down with Murwillumbah’s Brad Earnshaw.

Mr Darzanos said Lennox Head would provide a great setting for the October 21 event.

“The venue there is a high-end auditorium and there’s actually nowhere else to do it,” he said.

The promoter said the public was welcome to head along to a weigh-in at Ballina’s Cherry Street Sports Club from 6.30pm on October 20.

Mr Darzanos’ gym, Solace Muay Thai Ballina, is one of many riding the highs of a surging interest in the combat sports across the North Coast.

From MMA and Brazilian jiu-jitsu to boxing, teenagers have revealed how the structure and discipline of the combat arts has helped them in their daily life.
