It was something of a first to see the Coffs Harbour Cup race day run on a Friday - and the punters loved it.
A heaving crowd was trackside, in the stands and marquees for the event which stops the Coffs Coast that is traditionally run on the first Thursday in August.
The decision to scupper the half-day public holiday saw the Moonee Beach Hotel Gold Cup move to the Friday for the first time in 58 years.
The community didn’t seem to mind, as thousands turned out to celebrate with their friends in what is arguably the biggest social occasion of the year.
The girls were glammed, and the boys’ mullets were on point.
Under a beautiful winter sun, the refreshments went down a treat.
Fascinators came in all shapes and hue, never more so than out the back for the judging of the Fashions on the Field.
On course, there were eight races, while the main ride carried a $150,000 purse.
For the record, five-year-old gelding Attractable saluted in the Cup, paying handsomely too at $18.60 for the win on the NSW TAB.
King Of The Castle and Hail Manhattan took out the minor placings.
Coffs Harbour Racing Club hosted the gala under the watchful gaze of its CEO Tim Saladine, who would have been well pleased with the turnout.
The club’s next meeting will be the Spring Race Day on September 4.
