A Mid-North Coast roofing business owner was busted dealing drugs following a police operation investigating amphetamine supply across the region.

Nathan Dubos, who was the proprietor of Mid-North Coast roofing at the time of offending and employed up to five people, faced Taree Local Court on Monday for sentencing following his spectacular fall from grace.

In June 2022 police began Operation Dotty investigating amphetamine supply in the Forster and Tuncurry areas.

During phone intercepts Dubos was identified as an ‘upline supplier’ to another woman, according to court documents.

Early in the morning of December 15 2022, officers stopped Dubos as he drove away from a Primrose St house in Wingham he shared with his partner.

A roadside drug test returned a positive result and Dubos told the police he was a regular user of meth.

When asked if he had drugs in his car, Dubos said “a fair bit” and when officers conducted a search they found two resealable bags with methamphetamine inside, two mobile phones and $4600 cash.

The meth found in the car weighed 7.84g.

While he was in custody police searched the Primrose St address and found a book which appeared to be a handwritten ledger relating to drug supply, which police referred to as a “tick list”.

Later officers went to a storage shed rented by Dubos in Stevenson St, Taree, and found another book with names and dollar amounts under names referring to “dots, balls, halfos and Qs”.

Power tools allegedly stolen from a ute at Forster’s Discovery Park at Darawank were also located there but Dubos was not charged in relation to these items.

While he was in custody Dubos made about 250 calls to his partner which were intercepted by police. She has not been charged with any crime.

After listening to these calls police returned to the storage shed in Taree on January 31 2023 and found a bag with 2.61g of meth and a set of scales.

Police prosecutor Brad Winter urged the magistrate to send a message to the community when sentencing Dubos that dealing drugs is “not an easy way to make money” and those apprehended are risking jail.

Dubos was given an 18-month intensive correction order, which under legislation is a term of imprisonment which is served in the community.

“The distribution of drugs in the community is the distribution of misery among people who are often vulnerable,” Ms Hawkins said.

He must be of good behaviour, attend drug and alcohol counselling and perform 150 hours of community service.

This was an aggregate sentence for the three charges of prohibited drug supply, driving with illicit drugs in his system and breaching a prohibition in an apprehended domestic violence order.
