A hearing date has been set for a Coffs Harbour man facing child abuse material charges, with a judge warning all parties to be prepared.
Kody Zecchinati from Toormina is facing multiple charges of possessing and soliciting child abuse material.
He was arrested by the Australian Federal Police (AFP) and NSW Police officers in July 2022, and granted conditional bail.
The investigations began in March that year by the AFP-led Australian Centre to Counter Child Exploitation, following a US Homeland Security Investigations operation into the use of social media and other chat applications to access and share child abuse material.
In September 2022 he had his bail altered to allow him to attend work at the Coffs Harbour Jetty.
His conditions had included a specific directive not to go within 500 metres of any international airport or other point of departure from the Commonwealth of Australia.
It was heard in Coffs Harbour District Court on Friday that Zecchinati was still in the process of applying for legal aid funding.
Judge Michael McHugh said Zecchinati was on “onerous” bail conditions including a night-time curfew and reporting to the Coffs Harbour police station daily.
He must not contact anyone 16 years or under via phone, email, social networking site or other internet messaging service and must not go within 100m of any school, preschool, childcare facility or playgrounds.
A readiness hearing has been scheduled for July 7 with Mr McHugh warning that on that day “All I want to hear is yes from both parties”.
