John Henry Hallgath pleads guilty at Coffs Harbour court to common assault at Toormina Hotel

An argument between three women at a Coffs pub resulted in two of them being punched in the face and the third being hit with a schooner glass.

John Henry Hallgath pleaded guilty to two counts of common assault when he faced Coffs Harbour Local Court on March 22.

John Henry Hallgath was in the pub’s pool room with the women just before 6pm on September 14 when the mood soured, according to Coffs Harbour Local Court documents.

Hallgath, 31, pleaded guilty to two counts of common assault on March 22.

One of the women, Hallgath’s partner, objected to another woman speaking to him and called her a s--t.

The women pushed and shoved each other before Hallgath restrained his partner.

She continued the “violent behaviour” for a couple of minutes before going to collect her belongings.

She yelled out “go and kill another baby” to one of the other women as she went to grab her bag, court documents state.

The court heard one of the women grabbed a schooner glass from a table and smashed it over Hallgath’s partner’s head, leaving a large cut on her forehead.

The woman returned to her table to collect her belongings and Hallgath followed, before striking her in the face.

Hallgath then punched the other woman in the face and again turned on the first woman and hit her in the head two more times.

The two women left the hotel and paramedics treated Hallgath’s partner after the incident, which was captured on the pub’s CCTV.

Neither of the women who were punched sought medical treatment, police facts state.

Magistrate Theresa Hamilton adjourned Hallgath’s case for sentencing on April 12.
