A former police officer charged with possessing child abuse material has been directed to stay away from the small Mid-North Coast town of Kundabung.

The direction was made as part of Liam Joseph Eastwell’s bail agreement.

The agreement includes the stipulation to stay away from a family-operated Kundabung property for any event such as a wedding, birthday, camping or holiday event held there where a person under 18 is likely to be present.

Kundabung is located south of Kempsey, inland from the coastal town of Crescent Head.

Eastwell is alleged to have possessed category one and category two child abuse material on his personal computer hard drive.

It’s alleged the offending took place at Casino in the Northern Rivers between 7am and 9.45am on May 16.

Eastwell has been bailed to live at Lake Cathie and he must report to Port Macquarie Police Station on Mondays and Saturdays.

The 24-year-old cannot approach any school ground, playground or children’s activity where a person under 16 is likely to be present.

Eastwell has been directed to only have a single personal mobile phone, work phone and a laptop provided by his current employee.

He must advise the relevant police officer in charge of any new travel arrangements.

Eastwell’s arrest on June 15 came in the wake of an investigation by the Professional Standards Command.

Strike Force Marous began investigating the then-serving officer attached to the Northern Region in December.

Eastwell has not entered a plea.

The case was adjourned to Port Macquarie Local Court on October 19.
