An alleged rapist who police say lured intoxicated women into a carpark near a popular Coffs Harbour hotel and raped them is attempting to have his charges dealt with separately.
Faridoon Khaksar is pleading not guilty to seven charges including four of having sexual intercourse without consent – or rape.
The charges relate to more than one woman and the matter came before Coffs Harbour District Court on Monday where Khaksar’s lawyer made the application to have them heard separately.
Khaksar is an Afghan refugee and mechanic who was living with family members not far from the Coast Hotel on the Pacific Highway in the Coffs Harbour CBD around the time of the first two alleged attacks on two separate women in April and October 2022, according to court documents.
As his case progresses in court he has required a male Dari interpreter.
Police allege Khaksar offered to give the women a lift home in his Holden Commodore before taking them to a nearby car park and having sexual intercourse without their consent.
It’s also alleged Khaksar declined to take one of the women home and took her back to the hotel, while on another occasion he called a friend to take one of the women home.
Khaksar was on bail at the time of the second alleged offence, but it was revoked on October 13 after a warrant was issued for his arrest and he has been remanded in custody at the Clarence Correctional Centre since then.
He is now facing a total of seven charges: four of having sexual intercourse without consent and three of sexually touching another person without consent.
The matter was adjourned to March 26 in the Coffs Harbour District Court for a hearing to ‘sever the accounts on the indictment’.
