A disability support worker already on a community corrections order unleashed a violent assault at a party, leaving his victim bruised and with cuts to his face and the back of his head.

The attack by Mitchel Josef Sippel, 30, occurred just five days into a community corrections order for intimidation and preceded a further conviction for menacing driving.

Sippel had earlier pleaded not guiltyto assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

In evidence before Coffs Harbour Local Court, Sippel was “out on the drink” on July 18, 2023, when he attacked a man at a party.

Defence solicitor Brett Marshall told the court that his client, a disability support worker, had some “mental health issues at the time” and had shown remorse since the attack.

“He has changed his ways,” Mr Marshall said.

“He has ceased drinking altogether”.

Magistrate Theresa Hamilton told the court she was concerned about Sippel’s repeat offending only days after being placed on an order for intimidation but that wasn’t all.

“He’s since been placed on another order for menacing driving,” she said.

“The matters all show a lack of control.”

Despite his not guilty plea, Sippel was convicted of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and sentenced to an 18 month community corrections order.

He was also ordered to perform 120 hours of community service work.
