Dalby mum pleads guilty after threatening to ‘kill’ workers at Cafe 63, Coles
“Unhappy with her food”, this Qld mother’s complaint escalated into “extraordinary” death threats against cafe and Coles workers.
A Dalby mother threatened to kill staff at Cafe 63 and Coles amid a spectacular blow up over breakfast.
Mollie Rachael Bruce, 30, pleaded guilty in Dalby Magistrates Court to two counts of public nuisance and one count of driving without a registered vehicle.
Police Prosecutor Chris Hutchins said officers were in November called to Cafe 63 where it was reported Bruce threatened the lives of the staff at 8.45am that day.
“She stated (words) to the effect of ‘I’ll kill you all, I’ll be back in three days, that’s not a threat that’s a fact’,” Mr Hutchins said.
He told the court a caller also reported a woman of the same description continued to threaten the lives of people at the Coles carpark and police stopped Bruce as she got into a red Skoda with her two children and took her to the station.
“She gave no lawful reason for her actions stating she was doing it because she was unhappy with her food at Cafe 63, and she doesn’t recall what she said in the Coles carpark,” he said.
The court also heard police checks found the Skoda was unregistered.
Bruce’s defence lawyer Hamish Chapman said his client was a mother of twins, was having a hard day and felt remorseful about the situation.
“She’s had issues with that cafe in the past, and this one thing was all a bit too much,” Mr Chapman said.
Magistrate Kathleen Payne said Bruce’s behaviour was extraordinary at that time of the morning.
“You need to be able to control your emotions, I understand life can be very difficult and stressful but that’s no excuse whatsoever,” Ms Payne said.
“Often in cafes there’s very young people working and they don’t deserve to be treated in that manner.
“If you don’t like the food, go somewhere else, you chose to go there.”
Bruce was put on a $850 good behaviour bond for the public nuisance charges and fined $500 for unregistered driving.
No convictions were recorded.
