Premier David Crisafulli is preparing for a by-election battle he desperately wants to win as Hinchinbrook MP Nick Dametto prepares to quit.

Mr Dametto will tender his resignation as Queensland Parliament resumes this morning, sparking the first by-election of the term.

Mr Crisafulli, whose birthplace of Ingham falls within the Hinchinbrook electorate, is said to be desperate to win the seat for the LNP.

Labor is expected to field a candidate, despite initially weighing up the cost and benefit of running.

Katter’s Australian Party hopes its candidate Mark Molachino will hold the seat for the party.
