Brisbane-born technology powerhouse TechnologyOne has earned a spot on LinkedIn’s 2025 Top Companies list in Australia - recognised as one of the best midsize employers for career growth.
The ASX Top 100-listed company has carved out a reputation not just for its cutting-edge enterprise software, but for creating a workplace where employees can stay and grow.
Technology One was ranked at number 5 among Australian companies like NBN Australia (no 7) , Fusion5 (no 6) and ASC Pty Ltd (No.1) in the list of top-15 mid-size companies.
With a market cap touching $10 billion and a global workforce of nearly 1600, TechnologyOne has managed to do what many tech giants struggle with, build a culture that scales without sacrificing soul.
TechnologyOne CEO Edward Chung said while the accolades were flattering, especially in the company of big names like Atlassian, Amazon and CommBank who made the ‘best large employers list’ — the real reward was in the everyday impact of its culture.
He said the secret of a happy work culture was listening to the staff.
Every six months, TechnologyOne conducts a company-wide employee survey to assess its internal Net Promoter Score (eNPS), a measure of how likely staff are to recommend the company as a place to work.
It’s not a box-ticking exercise.
Mr Chung said the results shaped action plans, and every comment was reviewed by the leadership team, including himself.
When Mr Chung took over the role of chief executive in 2017, the company’s eNPS sat below zero.
Today, it has surged to a healthy +37.
“We took that feedback seriously,” Mr Chung said.
“It was a wake-up call, and since then we’ve gone through a deliberate cultural transformation - focused on leadership, clarity of mission, and staff wellbeing.”
The company now tracks promotion rates, supports internal mobility, and runs leadership summit O-weeks and Hack Days to develop rising talent.
He said TechnologyOne also provided a swag of work perks including giving workers an industry-leading employee share plan, free gym membership, daily on-site breakfast and coffee, and an extra 2.5 days annually to volunteer at a charity of their choosing.
In 2024, the company recorded its highest number of promotions in a single year - around 20 per cent of its workforce.
At its core, Mr Chung believes the real hook for staff wasn’t just the perks — it was the purpose.
“Our people work on projects that power councils, universities, hospitals and governments,” he said.
“It’s software that impacts daily life, often without people knowing. It’s personal. It’s meaningful.”
When asked how TechnologyOne supported ambitious employees looking to step into leadership roles, Mr Chung’s response was simple: show initiative, and the company will back you.
He said leaders at TechnologyOne were visible and accessible - walking the floors, engaging with staff, and actively responding to their aspirations.
“If someone says, ‘I want to grow here, train me to lead,’ we say, absolutely - let’s make it happen,” Mr Chung said.
He said one example was head of people and culture Danielle Windle.
She started in an entry-level travel role, moved through various business units including HR and consulting, and eventually became a general manager.
Now, just over a decade later, she is sitting at the executive table, a testament to the company’s strong culture of internal mobility and development.
TechnologyOne is now in the process of making its boldest move yet - reimagining how enterprise software is delivered.
The company will launch its SaaS+ offering, a model designed to remove the need for costly and time-consuming external consultants by using AI and in-house smarts to implement systems in 30 days.
“We’re going to remove consulting from the implementation of enterprise resource planning (ERP), and we’re going to use AI technology with our smarts, because customers don’t buy software to go through three, four or five years of implementation to then use the software,” he said.
“We’re going to do it in 30 days now, that is going to change the whole world in our space.
“And that’s very, very exciting. And that’s why the people are in TechOne, because we’ve got a big vision, bold vision, and we’re going to deliver it.”
With ambitious growth targets that include doubling size every five years, TechnologyOne is gearing up for even bigger stages.
Mr Chung believes the company’s progress was proof that doing the hard yards in culture-building delivered long-term business dividends.
“The culture we have today didn’t happen overnight. It’s taken seven or eight years of consistent effort - asking, listening and improving. That’s the real secret.”
