One of Cleveland’s most iconic and historically significant buildings is about to change hands.
The Cleveland Courthouse, a heritage-listed property at 149 Shore Street North, is set to go under the hammer in a high-profile auction next month.
For decades, the building has been a local landmark, serving not only as a courthouse but also as a beloved hospitality venue and up-market restaurant and function venue.
The sale marks a pivotal moment for the property, which has long been part of Cleveland’s community.
Perched on a spacious 1290 sqm site with more than 20m of direct frontage to Moreton Bay, the courthouse combines old-world charm with modern versatility.
Over the years, it has kept period features such as timber floors, exposed brickwork, and a working fireplace but was also carefully refurbished to meet contemporary standards.
The 485 sqm interior space, along with an additional 165 sqm of covered outdoor dining, has extensive potential for a wide variety of uses.
In its current form, it has served as a venue for everything from casual dining to weddings and large community and council events.
Its unique bay-front location has long made it a prime spot for celebrations and gatherings, and its historical significance adds another layer of appeal.
Agent overseeing the sale, Ray White’s Nathan Moore said the auction was a rare opportunity to buy a significant piece of Cleveland history.
“This is more than just a property, it’s part of Cleveland’s identity,” he said.
“It’s ready for its next chapter, whether that’s in the hands of an investor, a restaurateur, or an event operator.
“Opportunities like this don’t come around often as the shoreline is tightly held, and properties like this, with both rich history and immediate operational potential, are rare.”
Interested buyers can attend the auction on-site on Thursday, June 12 at 10am.
