Watch: The moment police arrest alleged kidnapper

Police have arrested and charged a man with hijacking a ride-share car and threatening the driver with a knife in Brisbane.

A man has been charged with kidnapping after he allegedly hijacked a ride-share car and threatened the driver with a knife in Brisbane.

Police allege between 10am and 11am on Wednesday they received reports of a person trespassing at three properties in Arana Hills.

Officers were patrolling the area when they saw the man jumping from a Nepean Ave business rooftop and getting inside a ride-share car at 11.30am.

It will be alleged the man then threatened the driver with a knife, who quickly got out of the car. Police allege the man then moved into the driver’s seat of the car and threatened police officers. Officers pulled their guns on the man and ordered that he surrender.

Dramatic footage of the man’s arrest shows officers drive up beside the car and pull the armed man out of the driver’s seat.

The footage shows the officers then pin him to the ground and place him in handcuffs, before seizing a knife from the front seat.

The 45-year-old Annerley man was charged with one count each of possession of a knife in a public place, kidnapping, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, serious assault police officer while armed with a weapon, and wilful damage.

He appeared before Brisbane Magistrates Court on Thursday.

Investigations into the trespass offences are ongoing.
