Two in hospital after New Farm fire

Two men were taken to hospital after a unit fire in Brisbane’s riverside suburb of New Farm, with police saying the blaze appeared to be suspicious.

Two men were taken to hospital after a unit fire in Brisbane’s riverside suburb of New Farm overnight, with police treating the blaze as suspicious.

Firefighters were called to units on Kent St about 12.14am Sunday.

Two men were taken to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, both in a stable condition. One suffered smoke inhalation and the other was distressed, according to the Queensland Ambulance Service.

According to a Queensland Fire Department spokesman multiple calls came through reporting flame and smoke coming from the unit complex.

“The unit was well involved on arrival,” the spokesman said.

“The fire was extinguished by 12.30am.”

The ground floor unit was significantly damaged by the fire.

Police consider the fire to be suspicious and investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing.
