Tiger Airways passengers have details passed on to Queensland Health amid coronavirus scare

All 157 passengers who travelled on the same flight as Queensland’s two confirmed cases of coronavirus have been contacted and provided advice on what to do next.

TIGER Airways has today confirmed all 157 passengers who travelled with Queensland’s two confirmed cases of coronavirus have been contacted.

The ninth Australian and second Queenslander confirmed with the virus is a 42-year-old woman from Wuhan, the virus’ epicentre.

The woman travelling with a 44-year-old man also with the virus, flew from Melbourne to the Gold Coast on Flight TT 566 on Monday, January 27 at 8:45pm.

A Tiger Air spokeswoman said the airline had contacted all passengers on the flight and provided their details to Queensland Health to discuss prevention measures and other queries.

The spokeswoman said the airline had cleaned the plane used for Monday night’s TT566

The airline has also taken the extraordinary step of contacting hundreds of people who travelled on subsequent flights on the same plane.

Seven members of the group travelling with the pair are all currently in quarantine in Gold Coast University Hospital.

This comes as the World Health Organisation has declared the virus a Global Public Emergency just 24 days after the virus was first discovered.

Over this time 171 people have died, over 8,000 cases have been confirmed globally with nine of those in Australia.

WHO director-general Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesu announced the emergency this morning reiterating its spread to 18 countries.

“The main reason for this declaration is not because of what is happening in China but because of what is happening in other countries,” Dr Ghebreyesus told reporters.

“Our greatest concern is the potential for the virus to spread to countries with weaker health systems, and which are ill-prepared to deal with it.”
