A TEACHER had a sexual relationship with an ex-student, who was his daughter’s best friend, asked her to marry him and threatened suicide when she ended it.

The disastrous affair has resulted in the teacher having his registration cancelled.

The love-struck teacher was 42 when he began the inappropriate relationship with the 17-year-old, who would stay overnight at his house while she was still at school, a tribunal heard.

When the teenager tried to end the relationship, the besotted teacher pestered her with phone and Facebook messages, she became afraid and took out a protection order against him.

The teacher told a tribunal the teenager had been very sexually aggressive, she was intrigued with 50 Shades of Grey books and movies and had wanted him to act out her fantasies.

The divorced teacher had been in a relationship with a woman while he was having a sexual relationship with his ex-student, Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal heard.

The tribunal said over years, while the student was in Years 10 to 12, the teacher formed a relationship with her when she stayed overnight at his home with his daughter, who was also at his school.

He would stay up late watching movies and chatting with the girl when others in the house were asleep.

Within four months of the girl leaving school the teacher kissed her at his house and soon after they began a sexual relationship, the tribunal heard.

They went on an overseas holiday together and seven months after the sexual relationship started the teacher asked the ex-student, who was then at university, to marry him.

After she attempted to end the relationship, the teacher begged her not to leave him, left gifts outside a house where she was staying, but also sent her abusive Facebook messages.

In one he said: “You ruined my f---ing life. Gave me the promise of something amazing and took it away in the worst possible way’’.

The teacher resigned from his school after the girl’s mother informed a school counsellor about the relationship.

The tribunal did not accept that the teacher had no interest in the girl while she was still at school and said the inappropriate relationship began when she was a guest in his house.

As soon as the girl stopped being a student the teacher felt he was no longer bound by professional student-teacher boundaries, the tribunal said.

The relationship with his daughter’s best friend was conducted in secret, with the pair deleting their messages.

The teacher told the tribunal he was completely in love and besotted and at the end of the relationship he was heartbroken and confused, with led to depression.

His children no longer talked to him, he had been unable to get much work and had almost lost his home.

On August 21, the teacher’s registration was cancelled and he was prohibited from applying for registration for five years and he must provide a psychologist’s report with any application.
