Violence has flared at the Gold Coast’s most popular surf break during a one-day swell.

Shock video has emerged of a surfer repeatedly punching a young bodyboarder who ‘dropped in’ at the so-called ‘Superbank’ on Monday.

The video, posted by Gold Coast-based surfing magazine 18seconds, shows the two riders take off on the same churning wave and then wipe out in the barrel.

When they surface, the older surfer can be seen unleashing a volley of punches to the head of the bodyboarder.

The surfer throws his hands in the air as he’s confronted by another bodyboarder, with a female surfer yelling: “He’s a kid, dude!”

18seconds posted: “Some pumping waves today. Dust-ups too. We don’t condone violence. It’s never the answer.”

The post sparked heated debate, with some commenters threatening retribution against the surfer and violence against those supporting the violence.

“Punching a kid multiple times in the head because he drops in on you on 3-foot wave is weak and embarrassing at best,” one commenter wrote.

Another posted that “beltin’ a kid regardless of situation ain’t ever condoned”.

“This c..t will get his down the track,” he warned.

A Sydneysider posted: “A drop-in has consequences. That’s why the GC is a cesspool.”

A Gold Coast local hit back: “Come up and visit. Let’s test your attitude tough guy. You wouldn’t get a wave (laughing emojis).”

Surf rage is rife at the Superbank, one of the world’s most crowded breaks.

The break, which runs from Snapper Rocks down through Rainbow Bay to Greenmount, can be packed with several hundred surfers at any one time.
