Footage of a shark chasing a stingray in Far North Queensland has gone viral, with the stingray performing impressive acrobatic tricks to avoid becoming dinner.

The footage, uploaded to Instagram by fly fisher Brody Sutton, shows a stingray outsmarting a hammerhead shark by leaping and dashing under the boat.

“Just another day in Cape York,” Mr Sutton wrote in the video description.

But it’s sparked a debate over whether the stingray is as lucky as people thought, with many commenters questioning whether the stingray actually managed to escape the predator.

“I guess y’all don’t realise the stingray got eaten,” one commenter wrote.

Dozens of people, convinced the stingray survived, flooded the comments to argue back.

“Nah, the ray made a quick left under the boat. The hammerhead’s dorsal and tailfins prevented it from chasing it,” one commenter wrote.

“Likely not, hammerhead don’t have that big of a mouth,” a second wrote.

Other commenters were impressed with the stingray’s talent, while others compared the stingray to famous athletes.

“High IQ play for the stingray,” one commenter wrote.

“That jump was Pokemon level crazy,” another wrote.
