The ‘colourful, wonderful’ life of a man killed in a motorbike crash on the M1 will be celebrated at a Gold Coast pub this week.

A man killed in one of two motorcycle crashes on the M1 in a week will be farewelled by family and friends at a popular Gold Coast pub on Thursday.

Steve Powter, 61, died in the second crash on June 26 near his Oxenford home.

The tragedy happened just four days after Carrara man Chris McDermott, 66, was killed when he was knocked off his bike and into the path of a truck on the motorway at Nerang.

Social media tributes are flowing for Mr Powter after his heartbroken wife, Lorraine, took to Facebook at the weekend to confirm ‘with great sadness’ his passing.

“We thank everyone for your kind words, love and condolences in this incredibly tough time,” she posted.

She advised his funeral would be held at the Advancetown Hotel, a haven for motorcyclists riding through the Gold Coast hinterland.

Mourners are being asked to wear bright colours “to celebrate Steve’s incredibly colourful, wonderful life”.

Shattered friends described Mr Powter as “the funniest bloke I have had the pleasure of knowing” and “the most happy, caring and decent person I’ve ever had the pleasure to meet and call a mate”.

Mr McDermott was farewelled at a funeral service at Nerang last Friday where motorcyclists formed a guard of honour.

“All of our hearts are broken, you will alway be with us in our heart forever Uncle Chris fly high, ride safe in heaven,” his nephew and godson Peter McDermott posted on Facebook after the service.
