Jarrod Bleijie has labelled Deputy Premier Cameron Dick “dodgy” and “a loser”, but refused to debate him about the best vision for Queensland’s future – sparking Mr Dick to declare he’s “living rent free” in Mr Bleijie’s head.
Undecided voters will get a chance to hear from the men vying to become deputy premier when The Courier-Mail hosts a Deputy Leaders’ Debate on October 24.
Mr Dick has accepted the invitation but Mr Bleijie, who on Sunday declared this the “most important election in a generation”, has not.
“I don’t want to entertain the ego of Cameron Dick, he only wants to do some form of debate so he can hear the sound of his own voice,” Mr Bleijie said.
“He’s desperate and he’s a bit of a loser and I’m not in the business of debating losers.”
The stunning comment prompted Mr Dick to slam the deputy opposition leader’s “personal attacks”.
“I’m living rent free in his head, that’s why he doesn’t want to debate me,” he said.
“That’s why he’s running away from that but I’m happy to debate Jarrod Bleijie or anyone else in the LNP … I think Queenslanders are waking up to the LNP.
“The net is starting to tighten on the LNP. They’ve made $10bn in unfunded promises and they can’t tell Queenslanders how they’re going to pay for it.”
The Deputy Leaders’ Debate will be live-streamed live on The Courier-Mail website.
Premier Steven Miles and Opposition Leader David Crisafulli will go head-to-head at the Sky News/Courier Mail People’s Forum live from Suncorp Stadium at 6.30pm on October 22.
