SHOCK Noosa favourite, independent Sandy Bolton, says whoever wants her backing will have to woo her by fulfilling promises, including a new enterprise hub and protecting the Noosa River and Noosa brand.

She said she had no preference for who should form Government, only that, as an “unashamed” Noosa-first independent, she would demand long-promised local improvements be delivered to her constituents.

She said neither side had so far approached her but warned they had better be ready with how her “Noosa hit list” would be delivered if they wanted her backing in Parliament.

The Noosa Shire councillor and mayoral candidate – she missed out on the mayoralty by less than 1000 votes in 2016 – looks set to beat LNP incumbent Glen Elmes in one of the upsets of the election.

Mr Elmes has held the seat for the Liberals and LNP in the four elections since 2006, but Ms Bolton said her grassroots campaign had reflected the frustration felt about broken promises from the major parties.

With 79 per cent of the vote counted yesterday, Ms Bolton was on 57 per cent of the two-candidate preferred vote, a swing of 14 per cent against Mr Elmes.

“It’s looking very good,” she said yesterday. “It was very much a grassroots campaign.

I’m very close to the community and was very familiar with their frustration.

“They want a greater say and they want to be listened to.”

Ms Bolton’s hit list included transformation of the defunct Noosa TAFE campus into an innovation hub, as well as upgrades to a list of dangerous local roads, better hinterland and Noosa bus routes, cleaning up and better managing the Noosa River and an environmental research institute.
